His Friendship with Wayne Rooney – A bond Ronaldo might not find in Real

This was just the case for Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. Both players could be regarded as the best of friends; and in reality, it is the compassion they feel for each other which has kept their bond that strong.
Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo: the unbreakable link
Several times in the past, Rooney’s friendship with Ronaldo was put to the test, but fortunately, nothing was able to cause separation. The 2006 World Cup in Germany presented a great incident, while England was playing against Portugal in the quarterfinals of the competition. The English striker Wazza was sent off in extra time, and this decision from the referee was highly supported by Ronaldo, who contributed to his club mate’s displeasure.
At that moment, everyone thought that it was going to be the end of Rooney and Ronaldo’s camaraderie; nevertheless, it wasn’t the case. The United number 10 forward immediately came out to clear the Portuguese winger’s name, taking a part of the blame on himself.
Surely, this was a sign of the great affection Wayne had for Cristiano, and even though the famous number 7 player kept receiving critics from the public, Rooney made sure that things didn’t become worst.
Obviously, not only must we take fondness as the only quality in their friendship, but also must we acknowledge the respect that plays a great role.
If one can remember, Manchester United’s last game against Newcastle United in March could also be classified as a special one for both Rooney and Ronaldo. Although the Red Devils won 2-1 with the help of Wazza and Park, Ronaldo might not have had such a good time on the field.
Steve Taylor kept fouling the Manchester United winger on several occasions, and since the referee didn’t pay attention to the challenges, Rooney decided to take action.
As Rooney confronted the Newcastle defender in the tunnel, Taylor responded with an insult, referring the English player to “an ugly manâ€. Certainly, this was just a piece of immaturity from the Steve; but even if the Newcastle defender’s reply might have sounded too harsh, Rooney could still feel satisfied, as he did his protective job as a friend.
Rooney or Real?
Now, one could wonder if the love Rooney and Ronaldo feel for each other is really balanced. So far, looking at the past, it is quite clear that it is trough Rooney’s effort that the two Manchester United forwards were able to go on with their companionship; however, things might not always be as they seem to be.
In any case, it is completely apparent that Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid will be a great disappointment for himself, as he will be leaving his success, his memories – and mostly – a great friend behind. It is then pretty clear that if Cristiano claims to really love Wayne as well as the rest of his teammate, then there might be something of bigger importance awaiting him in Real.
Who knows what it could be?
Could it be bigger fame? Alternatively, could it be a new type of success, an unexpected amount of money?
This remains a mystery for now, but whatever it may be, time will tell…
