Wayne Rooney: I care about England, not about Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi

The Manchester United number 10 striker has declared that he wasn’t concerned with the negative things that were happening to his former team mate Cristiano Ronaldo, or Barcelona’s ace Lionel Messi. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi both face the danger of missing next year’s Fifa World Cup in South Africa; however, Wayne Rooney affirmed that what was important to him was England’s future.

“I’m not really bothered if Cristiano or Messi are there or not,” said Rooney while speaking to the Daily Mirror.

“We have to concentrate on ourselves and to be honest it would be nice to see Portugal not there – because the last two tournaments they’ve knocked us out.

“Obviously when we didn’t qualify for Euro 2008, we got a lot of stick, including from Cristiano.

“You have banter with your team-mates, but it’s important not to go too far because it’s an important issue, especially if it’s a World Cup you are missing.”

England have already reserved their place in the finals of next summer’s tournament.

  • Random I know, but I just found this site where you can decide on the greatest united player + team to have played in the Prem, stupidly addictive. Unbelievably Rooney has not been voted in the top XI yet, Check it out http://www.greatestmanunitedplayer.com and get voting.

  • Wow.. These are frank comments from Wayne Rooney. Well, I guess he’s getting on with his own life and his own success.

Ronaldo does the same thing. But at the moment, I don’t think that Cris can think about England failing in South Africa 2010. He’s got so much worries to think about for his own Portugal…
