Bayern Munich 2-1 Manchester United: A Bad Night For Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney did not have the best of nights yesterday evening at the Alianza Arena as Manchester United lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Wayne Rooney got the first goal of the match for the visitors United early in the second minute, just after Munich defender Demichelis fouled Nani to give Manchester United a free-kick.
The free-kick was well taken by the Portuguese forward, and the unmarked Wayne Rooney only had to crush the ball home after a deflection from the Argentine defender Demichelis.
Manchester United were dominating the game throughout the first half, with Bayern Munich being weak and wasteful in front of goal.
Rooney was often set up to chase long balls, but the England striker felt really disappointed when he failed to get his second goal of the night by banging the ball inside the Bayern defense from close range, still in the first period.
Nani, Park, and Scholes all proved to be dangerous in attack for the Mancunians, but they couldn’t increase their tally.
The goalscorer Wayne Rooney then became the victim of a deflection on 76 minutes, when he unintentionally helped Frank Ribery to give Bayern the equalizer through a free-kick.
1-1 was the score line between Bayern Munich and Manchester United at that moment.
Rooney proved to be too aggressive later on and was consequently penalized by the referee who showed him a yellow card in the 88th minute.
In added time, Wazza suffered an ankle which could possibly rule him out of Manchester United’s game in the Premier League at the weekend, and just seconds before the referee’s final whistle, the Bayern striker Olic scored the winner for the home side.
In the end, Wayne Rooney saw his side losing away from home against the side which went down shockingly against the Red Devils in 1999, but in addition to this displeasure, Rooney also faces the danger of missing several more games for his club following his injury.
