A:3K Event Post-poned Until Next Summer Due to Rooney and Gerrard World Cup Failure

rooneyWayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard canceled their participation in A:3K football skills contest, after England tragic lost to German in World Cup 2010. They thought that it would be inappropriate for them to competing in such an event following their failure in WC.

A:3K Football was scheduled to take place at the O2 Arena and would have featured the England duo, along with Chelsea’s Didier Drogba, Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and David Villa of Barcelona.

The super six were being paid £500,000 each for competing in a series of skills challenges in front of a live audience for two hours.

But concerning 4 of the top 6 players now facing a huge disappoinment regarding their bad performance in World Cup, they were not ready just yet to join and competing in the gladiator style event.

After Rooney and Gerrard defeated to German squad, Cristiano Ronaldo also  facing a lot of critics after he failed to bring Portugal to enter the Quarter Final of World Cup, while Didier Drogba had a small injury during the match.

“Both Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney have made it clear they believe it would be inappropriate for them to participate in A:3K at this time,” Terry Byrne, director of A:3K, told The Daily Mail.

“We fully understand and respect both players’ decisions. We could have replaced them with two other players but feel the players involved are six of the best in the world – and that is what we promised we would deliver.

“Having consulted all parties involved, everyone agreed the only decision possible was to postpone the event until next summer when we intend to deliver the same six player line-up.Our priority right now is to our customers who have purchased tickets. ”

‘We will be offering a full refund or the option to keep the tickets for next year’s event. Once again all of us at A:3K would like to apologise to our customers, our partners and stakeholders for any inconvenience caused by the postponement.’

Rob Hallett, president of promoters AEG Live, said: ‘As a football fan I totally understand and respect Steven and Wayne’s decision to postpone their involvement in A:3K until next year. We look forward to hosting the event at the O2 Arena on the rescheduled date in June 2011.’

    It just goes to prove that are footballers are nothing but wimps. The one way to make it up to fans WOULD be to appear at the event. I mean it’s just not them that got knocked out, Ronaldo and Drogba got knocked out with there respective countries too!
