Wayne Rooney against AC MilanIt was a night to remember for the Manchester United football club who got their first win ever at the San Siro after beaten the hosts AC Milan 3-2 in an impressive manner. Unsurprisingly, the “Man of the Show” was none other than Wayne Rooney.

Manchester United started with nothing in mind but earning a deserved and positive score line against the sparkling Milan. Wayne Rooney began the game as a loan central striker upfront, supported by a nice line of players behind him which included the in-form Nani on the right wing, and Park Ji-Sung on the left.

AC Milan quickly took control of the match in the early minutes when the referee awarded a free-kick to the home team, which was taken by former Red Devil David Beckham. Beckam’s delivery couldn’t quite fan an unmarked team mate inside the box, but at least, a sloppy clearance from Patrice Evra was enough to send the ball to Ronaldinho – who blasted the ball home for the opener.

AC Milan were leading 1-0 against Manchester United, and in fact, they could have increased the tally minutes later when Ronaldinho, Luca Antonini, Alessandro Pato, and Klas-Jan Huntelaar all came very close to scoring subsequent goals.

That didn’t happen though, and a threatening United side finally got back into the game deseverdly through Paul Scholes after the half hour mark. A low cross from Darren Fletcher correctly found Scholes who made a sort of miss-kick, but fortunately, the ball bounced off his left leg and slowly rolled across the goal line – moving toward the left post as it disgracefully beat an unaware Dida.

1-1 was the half time result between AC Milan and Manchester United.

United came in the second half, aiming for the winner, or at least, further goals. After a few minutes back in action, the United manager Sir Alex Ferguson decided to make a change in his squad.

Nani – who was far from being at his best – was then replaced by the Ecuadorian Luis Antonio Valencia, and this substitution appeared to be a vital one from Fergie.

Valencia immediately showed his value in the English team by hitting the attack for the Mancunians, and his instant cross brilliantly sent the ball high into the air in the direction of Wayne Rooney, who wonderfully headed the ball past the ever-helpless Dida.

2-0 was the score line at that moment for Manchester United, and Rooney was the man to get all the admiration.

More came in favor of the Red Devils as the second half passed by, and the 75th minute was the moment that proved it. A well-made chip by Fletcher over the Milan defenders gave an unmarked Wayne Rooney the chance to race on the way to the ball, only to head home the third goal of the night for Manchester United.

A double from Wayne Rooney turned the score line to 3-1 against AC Milan, but the gap was reduced 10 minutes later, when a strong and low ball from Ronaldinho was sent at the back of the net by second-half substitute Clarence Seedort to reduce the deficit for Milan.

The game eventually ended “AC Milan 2-3 Manchester United”, and even though United might not have been capable of keeping their 2-goal margin in the match, they were still capable of breaking their historical goalless curse away to the San Siro, and this was partly made possible through the instrumental Wayne Rooney.
