England travelled to Belarus for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers with victory being their sole aim.
Before the game, coach Capello avowed his trust in Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney which earned the 22 year old a starting line up place. Belarus scored first but Gerrard equalized from long range moments later.
And then, the marvellous kid, Wayne Rooney finished things off as he bagged two goals for his country. The game ended 3 – 1, a result that almost sealed England’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup in South Africa.
This is England’s best ever start in a qualifying campaign, and Wayne Rooney is part of this incredible history.

Rooney scores twice as England crush Kazakhstan 5 – 1
Another appearance and another good day for Wayne Rooney; the striker is undoubtedly back and has reached top form.
England hosted Kazakhstan at the Wembley stadium for their Group 6 qualifiers game.
The Three Lions failed to convert their dominance into goals in the first period. However, in the second half, it was a completely different story.
Rooney pressured the Kazakhstan defender who scored an own goal out of a Lampard free kick.
The 22-year-old then had his name on the scoring sheet when he headed the ball home later on. And there was still time for him to squeeze in another ball past the goalkeeper to complete his double.
England play Belarus this week.
