Heskey's misfortune solves Englands striker dilemma
4 views 19 September 2007At the end of the England game against Russia, Steve McClaren had a real problem on his hands; His forced changes to the team worked really well…a little too well. It left the problem of fitting Rooney back into the England team.
However during Wigan’s match with Fulham 3 days later the God of football seemed to sort things out for the england manager. Part of the way into the match Heskey landed awkwardly and incurred the same metatarsal injury that kept Rooney out in the first place. Now is that unlucky or what!
Since the weekend’s match Heskey has had a pin inserted in the metatarsal bone. Physio Alan Tomlinson did not set a comeback date for the player but he is unlikely to be fit for England’s games against Estonia and Russia in October. It must be a real blow for him after doing so well…It will make Rooney happy though.
Steve McClaren on the other hand still has a selection problem with Frank Lampard when he returns. Gareth Barry who replaced him in Englands two qualifying games gave top performances in both games and it will be hard to drop him after that!
How would you line up the England team…..

Cristiano Ronaldo
Cesc Fabregas
Fernando Torres
Lionel Messi
Wayne Rooney
Gonzalo Higuain
Sergio Ramos
Real Madrid
Arsenal
FC Barcelona
Liverpool
Manchester United
AC Milan
But if something works you don’t change it unless you have to!
We cannot compared Rooney with the other players since he is the best among other strikers in england squad.
I think it should be left as it is. Fair enough, Rooney has to come in, but if Heskey wasn’t injured I think he did enough to keep his place.
