After a disappointing draw on Tuesday night in the Champions League, Manchester United traveled to Sunderland, hoping to get all 3 points in order to stay at the top of the Premiership table.
Fresh from his brilliant display in mid-week, Wayne Rooney started the game. He didn’t manage to get a goal though, but at least he didn’t have a bad time on the pitch.
As usual, Rooney’s presence was valuable to the Mancunians. In the first half, he helped his side grab the lead trough a decent cross, which was nicely headed in by Paul Scholes.
Sunderland then equalized in the second half, but once again, 17-year-old striker Macheda came to United’s rescue. He scored the winner with a few minutes left – United were back to winning ways.
In the end, Rooney may not have been able to get his name on the scoring sheet as he did against FC Porto; however, he can be delighted that he contributed to his side’s victory.
