Rooney saves the Reds and escapes red

1 views 11 December 2008

In a game where a weaken Man United side played carelessly in front of goal, Rooney’s presence was very much needed. The England striker provided most of Manchester United’s attacks; His header found Giggs who passed the ball to Tevez for the opening goal inside three minutes.

Rooney then inscribed a goal of his own: a second half equalizer to save Manchester United’s 15 matches unbeaten home record in Europe and level the score line to 2-2.

Besides getting praises for his important goal – which ensured the Red Champions top spot in Group E after Villareal lost 2-0 to Celtic, Rooney also had some huge criticism from Aalborg’s Kasper Risgard:

“He was jumping on my chest. Anywhere else but here and it would have been a red card,” Risgard said in the Daily Mail.

“Referees are frightened to punish players here at Old Trafford, especially players like Rooney. I can see the marks on my chest, big marks.

“He apologised, so it’s okay. But there was another incident when he used his arm and hurt one of our players.”

Fergie though, had other opinions which he expressed after the game:

“I never saw anything with Rooney. They were quite tigerish themselves. One of their players could have been sent off for a tackle on Carlos Tevez.”

UEFA’s match review panel will investigate on the incident and Rooney could face a one match ban if found guilty of any thing.
