Rooney scores in United’s 2-0 victory over Portsmouth.

With only six games left in the Premier League to play before the match, the Red Devils knew that they weren’t allowed to let Pompy reduce their chances of winning the league.

Having being eliminated from the FA Cup at the weekend by Everton, it was about time they gave their all.

Eight minutes were enough for Rooney to show his influence in the team. Ryan Giggs provided him with a nice cross, which he brilliantly converted to score United’s first goal.

The Mancunians were heading for the three points and there was absolutely nothing Portsmouth could do about it.

In the second half, Carrick sealed the win with another impressive shot; 2-0 was the final score line.

Manchester United now tops the league with three points ahead of second place Liverpool, though the Sir Alex Ferguson’s side still has a game in hand.

Well, so far, it looks pretty match like United are going to lift the trophy. There are then enough reasons for Wayne Rooney and his other teammates to celebrate their success…
