Wayne Rooney – a threat for Arsenal in tonight’s Champions League match

3 views 29 April 2009

Manchester United will play Arsenal at home tonight, in their first leg match of the semifinals in the UEFA Champions League, and it is definitely a game not to miss.

The Red Devils are currently the defending champions of Europe, and therefore, the Gunners will want to get a shocker at the Theatre of Dreams tonight.

Both sides seem absolutely poised for this meeting, as both teams had sensational wins at the weekend.

However, after Arsenal’s 4-4 draw at Anfield in mid-week, it was made clear to the public that Arsene Wenger’s defense needed to be restored. Yet, this fact could be something very pleasant for the Mancunians, and mostly for Wayne Rooney himself.

Rooney’s recent form has so far played a major in United’s successful road in England and in Europe.

Not only did he scored the equalizer against Porto at Old Trafford 3 weeks ago, but also was he able to put the ball at the back of the net twice at the weekend, in his side’s 5-2 win over Tottenham.

In fact, Wayne Rooney has done enough recently to prove to everyone that he has done his best, and that his best has been enough. Arsenal’s Theo Walcott avowed his admiration towards Rooney:

“‘Wazza’ is an unbelievable player and obviously we have to stop him in the semi-final because he is a winner.”

Now, Manchester United supporters will hope to see their dear striker repeat what he did in his last Champions League game at home to Porto, where he scored a goal, and created another.

Surely, this is not the impossible, but it is a great challenge; and the least United fans could do, would be to encourage Rooney to carry on with his good form tonight.
