Wayne Rooney confident of lifting Manchester United up despite the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez from the team
2 views 29 June 2009The Manchester United number 10 striker Wayne Rooney expressed his wish of filling the space left by Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez in the team.
However, while making his statement, Rooney specified that his capability of playing such a role will depend on the position Sir Alex Ferguson put him in.
Of course, being aware of how tough his responsibility will be, the English forward added that the help of a few more players would be necessary to make the team strong again.
“We’ve lost two key players and obviously I hope we can get a few players in,†Rooney declared.
“Between them, Cristiano and Carlos scored a lot of goals for us last season and the season before, but I would like to think I’m capable of filling that gap. I’ve said before that, if I can play in my right position, I’m capable of doing that.â€
The United talisman has missed his real position since the entry of the Bulgarian star Dimitar Berbatov in the club.
Rooney is usually known to be best as a central forward, nevertheless last season, manager Fergie decided to ignore the striker’s desire, pushing him at the far side, and forcing him to play as a winger.
Certainly, placing Wayne Rooney in the main striking position will be of great help to the English Champions, as The Three Lions have already witnessed his effectiveness in front – when the 23-year old forward netted ten goals in his past ten appearances for England from his central role.
