Carling Cup Man of the Match Wayne Rooney has admitted that playing in finals was one of the greatest things he could do for a football club.
Wayne Rooney is a superb team player, and it was through him that Manchester United were able to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at the Wembley Stadium in the Carling Cup final on Sunday afternoon.
“I was chomping at the bit to get on,” Rooney stated.
“You want to play in finals; thankfully, I have managed to do so and left my mark on the game (Carling Cup final).
“I knew on Wednesday or Thursday I wouldn’t be playing (Carling Cup final).
“I had a little bit of a stomach bug and the manager (Sir Alex Ferguson) was looking for an excuse to leave me out. When he found out about that, it made his mind up.
“I was still disappointed, but it was the correct decision by the manager.”
Wayne Rooney is currently hoping to recover from a minor knee injury in order to feature in the England starting line-up which will face Egypt on the 3rd of March, in an international friendly match.
